See John Dillinger and the Public Enemies of 1934 as they “rob” the First National Bank at 11:00 am, 1:00 pm, and 3:00 pm! It will be a fun-filled, action-packed reenactment! Iowa Independent Film Festival in Mason City!

Enjoy the finest independent films from around the world at the IOWA INDEPENDENT FILM FESTIVAL!! Head to downtown Mason City on Friday, August 18th, and Saturday, August 19th, for 29 films! The 10th annual IIFF features feature films, short films, and documentaries, and discussions with some of the filmmakers! Films will be screened at The Main Event (112 2nd Street Southeast) and a student film showcase will be head in the Mason City Room at the Mason City Public Library (225 2nd Street Southeast). Fill your bellies in Mason City at the 14th annual Up in Smoke BBQ Bash!!! The Globe Gazette is sponsoring this favorite yearly event this weekend, July 21st and 22nd, in East Park! Come dine on the best BBQ in the Midwest as teams compete for the coveted title!  


The Kansas City Barbeque Society has sanctioned the competition and teams will be cooking for certified KCBS judges. Enjoy incredible brisket, chicken, pork shoulder, ribs, and more! There will be an overall grand and reserve champion along with divisional winners. Other competitions include desserts, Spam and Anything Butt!


Although food is the main attraction, there are lots of other fun activities and live music planned for the weekend festivities! Check out everything happening at this incredible, FREE community event in beautiful Mason City!

Rockford Fun Days and Jon Tumilson Memorial 5K Run!

It’s time for Rockford, Iowa’s biggest celebration of the year…..9th Annual Rockford Fun Days!!! Celebrate summer and everything you love about living in this charming town at this great annual festival on Saturday, July 15th! The day is filled with family fun activities. Dine on delicious food, compete in the disc golf and kickball tournament, catch the parade, play some games, see incredible live performances, and so much more! Be sure to participate or cheer on the runners in the Jon Tumilson Go Crush It 5K Challenge and Kids Frogman Fun Run! This great event honors the memory of Navy Seal and local hero Jon T. Tumilson, who along with 29 other men and one service dog, gave his life for his country on August 6th, 2011 in Afghanistan. Do not miss the stunning fireworks show at the end of the evening! And, the 2017 North Iowa Fair is one of the best of the best! Mark your calendars for Wednesday, July 19th, through Sunday, July 23rd, so you do not miss out on any of the fun at the North Iowa Events Center (3700 4th Street Southwest, Mason City). With amusement rides, carnival games, delicious food, live music, farming events, events at the Mason City Motor Speedway and so much more, there is something for everyone at the fair! 2nd Annual Hot Air Balloon Rally

  • Come to the NIEC Green Space on Friday evening, Saturday morning and evening, and Sunday morning for tethered rides ($10), sponsored balloon rides, walk-in balloons ($1), “Glow Shows”, and more! Call (641) 423-3811 to learn more about purchasing tickets.

Carolina Helicopters

  • Take a helicopter ride to see a bird’s eye view of the fair every day of the event. Rides cost only $20 per person!

River City Radio Control “Fun Fly”

  • See the most incredible radio control airplanes and more during the “Fun Fly” on Saturday, July 22nd, from 10:00 am until sundown. There may be opportunities to co-pilot one of the radio control devices.

Celebrate our nation’s 241st birthday and all of the freedoms we have enjoyed since achieving independence at this fantastic community event. From Thursday, June 29th, through Tuesday, July 4th, fill your days with amusement rides, bingo, a midway, open-air vendor market, live music in the bandshell (North Lake View Drive), and so much more in beautiful Clear Lake! The week long celebration will culminate in an Independence Day parade down Main Avenue and North Iowa’s most spectacular firework display over the lake!
