Celebrate the Clear Lake Area Chamber of Commerce's bigest night of the year! The 2017 Annual Awards will be presented, the 75th Anniversary year will be kicked off, AND the 2018 edition of Destinitation Clear Lake will be unveiled!

 

"The Jack" Iowa LeMans Snowmobile Championship Jack Helgren Memorial Race

Dates: Friday, January 19th - Saturday, January 20th

Location: Clear Lake State Park

Enjoy snowmobiling fun at the Annual Jack Race weekend! The whole family will love this weekend of festivities. On Friday, enjoy a snowmobile ride around the lake, bonfire, and Welcome Reception. On Saturday, check out all the races, vintage show, and more. Check out the awards banquet and live band at the end of the night. This annual event is a memorial to Jack Helgren, a Clear Lake buisnessman and avid snowmobiler.

 

Poodle Skirt Workshop

Date: Saturday, January 27th

Time: 10:30 am - 12:30 pm

Location: Clear Lake Arts Center (17 South 4th Street)

Boy Scout Chili Supper

Date: Monday, January 29th

Location: United Methodist Church (508 2nd Avenue North)

Enjoy a delicious vegetable soup and chili soup by Clear Lake Boy Scott Troop 30. Carryouts will be available starting at 4:30 pm. The cost is $8 per adult and $3 per child (ages 12 & under).

 

The Real Buddy Holly Story Rockumentary

Date: Wednesday, January 31st

Time: 3:00 pm - 4:45 pm

Location: Clear Lake Arts Center (17 South 4th Street)

See Paul McCartney's Rockumentary about rock 'n roll legend Buddy Holly. Beverages will be available to purchase. This event is FREE to the public. Can't make it on the 31st? There are additional screenings February 1st through 3rd (all at 3:00 pm).

 

Winter Dance Party Family Sock Hop

Date: Wednesday, January 31st

Time: 7:00 pm - 11:55 pm

Location: Surf Ballroom (460 North Shore Drive)

Short Film Premier in Lake Mills!

Come celebrate and support incredible local talent at the official premier of Kevin Isaacson's short film Oliver Short! Head to The Mills Theater (216 West Main Street, Lake Mills) on Sunday January 14th, as they host this FREE screening! Doors will open at 1:00 pm and the show begins at 1:30 pm. Grab some soda and popcorn and find your seats for this excellent local film.



Oliver Short stars Carly Neel and Frank Boyd. After losing her father last year, sixteen year old Alex does not know how to handle her grief. She acts out by spraying graffiti on her father's gravestone. While doing so, Oliver Short appears. This mysterious gentleman is in need of her help. Alex soon realizes that Oliver and other individuals she has met in the cemetary are spirits. All of the spirits are unsettled due to unfinished business with their still living family members. Alex chooses to help these spirits and is able to properly let go of her own father's death.



Be sure to stick around after the film for a talk back with the filmmakers! This is a great event that you do not want to miss!

22nd Annual Festival of Trees Opens Today!

Come kickoff  the holiday season in Clear Lake this weekend at the One Vision Festival of Trees!! For the 22nd year, more than 100 Christmas trees, wreaths, and other holiday décor will be on display and for sale  at One Vision’s Kinney Lindstrom Center gymnasium (1200 North 9th Street West) from Friday, December 1st through Sunday, December 3rd. Enjoy a beautiful, festive walk through the displays and find the perfect decorations for your North Iowa home! Don’t miss your chance to see and purchase the beautiful wreath sponsored by Jane Fischer and Associates Team!! Along with the displays, enjoy live musical entertainment and fun special events planned throughout the weekend, including the Opening Night Gala, Breakfast With Santa, Cookie Walk, and other family activities!

 

The Festival of Trees is a fundraiser for One Vision (formally Opportunity Village). This nonprofit organization, based in Clear Lake, helps over 550 people “achieve greater independence through personal choice and community involvement”. All proceeds from this weekend will be used towards services provided by the organization.

Your children will love some “parent-free” time while creating homemade gifts to take home.

 

COOKIE WALK

Mason City Ranked One of the Safest Cities in Iowa!

With fun community events, exciting cultural and entertainment amenities, beautiful recreational facilities, and excellent local schools, MASON CITY is a great place to call home! On top of all of these incredible attributes, Mason City is also SAFE! It was recently ranked the 9th Safest City in Iowa!

 

Home security website SafeHome recently released their list of the safest cities, with a population of at least 60K, in the state. They calculated their rankings based on recent crime data from the FBI as well as from the U.S. Census. When the results came in…..Mason City received an overall Safety Score 78.38!

Clear Lake is one of the best places to call home. A stunning natural landscape, endless recreational activities, fun community events, and access to amenities and facilities are just some of the many reasons that Clear Lake is top notch. Another reason is the dedication of local organizations to promote and support the continual development of the community. One such organization is the Clear Lake Area Chamber of Commerce! This fantastic organization made up of local business owners is dedicated to making the community a better place for everyone.


The Chamber is focusing on connecting its members and the public in better ways. Communication is key to this effect. Find out more about the organization and the work they do during their "Chamber Chats" on Facebook. These live videos occur the 2nd and 4th Monday of every month at 11:00 am. Topics are focused on upcoming Chamber and major community events, local projects and happenings, Chamber members, and more helpful information. The streets of North Iowa will soon be filled with ghosts and goblins, princesses and cowboys! Trick or treating is right around the corner! Get your home ready for all the trick or treaters this Halloween! Follow these simple tips to make your home safe and festive for all your frightful guests!


Make a Clear Path

Ensure that there is a clear and safe route to your front door! Avoid trips and slips by clearing of your driveway and walkways of all debris. Keep the yard clear of all items, such as bicycles, toys, and yard equipment. Make sure that any decor is situated away in the grass or along the porch.


Keep Your Pets Away

You might have the world's friendliest four legged friend but keep them securely locked away from the front door. You have no way of knowing how they will react to the little visitors constantly coming to your front door. In addition, some trick or treaters might have a fear of dogs. Make sure that they feel comfortable when they come to your home.


Let There Be Light

A light on at the front door lets trick or treaters know that candy is available at your home! More importantly, though, it helps the kiddos see their way to the front door, ensuring a safe journey to their treats.


Make It Festive and Welcoming

Add some festive decor to your front entryway. Although part of the fun of Halloween is the over the top scares, consider choosing decorations that will not frighten the littlest ones coming to your door.


Stock Up On Candy

Hit the stores and make sure you have an ample supply of candy! You want to make sure that all the trick or treaters can get goodies at your home throughout the evening!

Halloween Hike at Lime Creek Nature Center

Explore Lime Creek Nature Center on a spooky evening hike. Learn about all the creatures that call the center home from your trail guide and enjoy refreshments after all that fresh air. The outdoor fun takes place on Thursday, October 19th, from 6:30 pm to 8:30 pm. The hike costs $3 per person and reservations are required. Call (641) 423-5309 to reserve your spot!

 

Cocktails and Canvas "A Night in the Pumpkin Patch" at Clear Lake Arts Center

Get artistic at an Arty Party at Clear Lake Arts Center on Friday, October 20th. Join instructor Linda Dlouhy as she helps you create your very own “Starry, Starry Pumpkin Patch” while enjoying refreshments. The cost is $30 for members and $32 for non-members (cost includes all supplies right down to the paint smocks). Space is limited. Haunted Hike at The D and D Ranch

Find frights around every corner at The D and D Ranch (2532 South Shore Drive, Clear Lake). Every Friday and Saturday night, along with Halloween, 7 pm to 11 pm. Begin in the Halloween Museum before braving the haunted, wild west town. This fun and scary Halloween attraction costs $12 per person.

 

Scarecrows at Central Garden

Enjoy the crisp fall weather and beautiful autumnal setting of Central Gardens as you admire the scarecrows that now populate the gardens. All the scarecrows were handmade by local residents and organizations. This exhibit is open daily.

 

Boogie Spooktacular at Surf Ballroom

Dance the night away with Boogie and the Yo-Yo’z at Surf Ballroom. This great concert will take place on Saturday, October 28th. Doors open at 8:00 pm. Tickets are $15 in advance and $20 at door. Must be 21+ to attend.
