Today marks the first official day of Spring! After a long winter, we are all looking forward to warmer weather, blooming flowers, and days in the great outdoors. With spring finally here, it is the perfect time to start planning our adventures out in the sun. There are many fantastic recreational spots throughout the Mason City area for you and your family to enjoy this spring and beyond. Here are our favorite local spots that we recommend checking out this season!

Lime Creek Nature Center | 3501 Lime Creek Road, Mason City

This facility is the perfect spot in the area to explore the great outdoors. The center offers educational exhibits and programming about North Iowa’s natural resources and wildlife. Outside, the Conservation Area includes a variety of natural habitats, including forest, prairie, and wetland. There are over 8 miles of trails that wind through these areas and allow for hiking, biking, and horseback riding.

East Park | East State Street, Mason City

There is something for everyone to enjoy at this fantastic community park. Covering 57.6 acres, there are endless facilities for your family to use. If you like to remain active outdoors, check out the basketball, tennis, and volleyball courts, as well as the 9 hole disc golf course. For a more relaxing afternoon, wander through the natural spaces of the park or fish along Willow Creek or the Winnebago River. Your children will love playing on the city’s largest playground and in the wooden maze.

River City Sculptures on Parade | Downtown Mason City

One of the most notable features of our community’s downtown is the amazing display of public art located throughout. There are unique sculptures created by artists from around the United States. Take a self guided tour and marvel at these beautiful works of art. It is also a great way to explore downtown and all its amazing architecture, cultural facilities, and dining and retail options.

Central Gardens of North Iowa | 800 2nd Avenue North, Clear Lake

This tranquil and relaxing spot might truly be the most beautiful natural setting in our area. Located on 2.75 acres, it is currently home to 11 unique gardens. These gardens include wildflower, wetland, Victorian Shrub Rose, butterfly, children’s, container, and so much more. There are also ponds and terraces located throughout the gardens. It is a peaceful place when you want to get away from it all.
