Enjoy a day filled with railroad fun at this year’s Cannonball Day! Head to East Park (717 3rd Street Northeast) in beautiful Mason City on Saturday, June 29th, from morning to night for lots of family fun! This favorite annual event celebrates all things trains and railroad history. The festivities go on all day with a kids fun run, talent competition, inflatable playgrounds, car show, Smokey the Train rides, live music, and so much more! All proceeds from this event benefit the maintenance, preservation, and restoration of the Cannonball 457, East Park’s own Minneapolis & St. Louis Railroad steam locomotive.
Register your children for the annual Cannonball Kids Fun Run. Each participant will receive a T-shirt, medal, and tickets for fun Cannonball Day activities. There will also be water and healthy snacks available at the end of the race. Two different events are planned for this year: the “Toddler Trot” (ages 2 to 5) and the “Pick Your Own Distance” (ages 5 to 13). Click HERE for the downloadable registration form!
Let your child showcase their incredible talent during the Bill Riley Talent Search, which is held during Cannonball Day. The competition is open to any ages 2 to 21 years old. Each competitor will receive a ribbon and cash prizes are awarded to the top winners, who will also go on to compete at the state fair! Click HERE for the entry form.
Mason City Evening Lions Club Chicken BBQ
Dine on a delicious BBQ chicken dinner during the event! Tickets for this fantastic, Hy-Vee cooked meal are $9 for a 1/2 chicken and $7 for a 1/4 chicken. It includes baked beans, coleslaw, dessert, and beverage. Please find any Evening Lions Club or River City Kiwanis Club member to purchase tickets in advance. Not only will you be able to enjoy the mouthwatering meal but your purchase will help support the programs of the Kiwanis and Lions club, as well as the Friends of the 457!
