Remembering Those Who Served This Memorial Day

With less organized festivities and social distancing practices in place, Memorial Day weekend might look a little different this year. However, it provides us with the opportunity to truly reflect on the purpose for this holiday. Spend the day remembering and honoring those brave men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to our country.

Although Memorial Day was officially declared a federal holiday in 1971, its origins date back to the time of the Civil War when graves of fallen soldiers were decorated with flowers. As time carried on, the tradition continued and the day is now used to honor the heroes of all of our nation’s military branches that have given their lives in order to protect and serve the United States. At 3:00 pm today, the federal government asks that all Americans take a moment of silence to remember those who have sacrificed their lives fighting for our country. We might not be able to gather today for parades or ceremonies but we can take the time to participate in the National Moment of Remembrance to honor these extraordinarily brave men and women.

All of us are here today because of the sacrifices made by others. We extend the deepest appreciation and thanks to our nation’s fallen heroes on this Memorial Day. Jane Fischer & Associates wishes everyone in North Iowa and beyond a happy and safe Memorial Day.
