This Weekend: Clear Lake’s Color The Wind Kite Festival!

The skies above beautiful Clear Lake are once again about to be filled with incredible shapes and colors. This weekend is the 2020 Color the Wind Kite Festival! Saturday, February 15th, marks the return of one of North Iowa’s favorite winter traditions! Dress in your winter weather gear and head to the Downtown Seawall (10 North Lakeview Drive) from 11 am to 4 pm to see kites from around the world in the North Iowa sky!

As the midwest’s largest winter kite festival, this is an event that you do not want to miss! The giant inflatable kites offer fun and excitement for the whole family! And, admission is FREE!

Check out incredible performances throughout the day by two talented, professional stunt kite teams: Team 180GO and Fire & Ice Alchemy.

Pick up your own beautiful kite for sale from Route 66 Kite Shop (located in the Lakeview Room) to make your own kites “dance” to the music played by DJ “Mr. Kite” Craig Christensen.

Take a break and enjoy delicious hot food from Smokey Heights and Cedar Valley Express, as well as tasty sweets from the local Relay of Life team.

Please note there will be limited parking close to the flying field. The Clear Lake Chamber of Commerce will once again be offering their free shuttle service between the parking lot of Clear Lake High School (125 North 20th Street) and City Beach.

Be sure to start your weekend of high flying fun early by attending the Meet the Kite Pilots Reception at Clear Lake Arts Center (17 South 4th Street) on Friday, February 14th, from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm. It is a great opportunity to get to know all the individuals that make this one of North Iowa’s best events of the year! Refreshments will be served.
