VETERANS DAY is on Monday, November 11th. On this day, we honor the brave men and women that serve in our country’s armed services. As a country, we owe so much to these individuals that protect us and our freedoms here and abroad. Spend the day celebrating our United States military men and women at these fantastic community events.
Veterans Day Assembly
Time: 1:30 pm (Doors open at 1:00 pm)
Location: Lincoln Intermediate
Join the students and staff at Lincoln Intermediate as they celebrate Veterans Day. The assembly is open to all veterans and their families. Special speaker Mayor Bill Schickel will talk on the topic “What Can Children Do To Show Patriotism”. The event will feature performances of the Star-Spangled Banner and God Bless America by the entire student body. In addition, a video explaining the origins of Veterans Day and a tribute will be screened. The assembly will end with a rifle salute by the Veterans of Foreign Affairs and a playing of Taps by student trumpet players. Veterans Day Ceremony
Time: 9:45 am
Locations: Central Park (Downtown Mason City) | All Veterans Center (1603 South Monroe Avenue, Mason City)
Head to Central Park for a dedication ceremony at the Veterans Monument. There will be 33 names added to the memorial along with a changing of the flags, a playing of Taps, and a military firing squad. After the assembly at Central Park, the ceremony will move to the All Veterans Center. This portion of the event will feature a wreath laying dedicated for the AHEPA Lodge, music by Bill Grant and the Reverend Pastor Sid Bohls, and special speaker Vice Admiral Norman W. Ray.

Celebrate Veteran’s Day and give back to a great cause at the Veterans Day Generosity by Thrivent Financial. This event is partnering with Patriots for Pets. Meet the service dogs and learn more about the work of this veteran-serving organization. Bring a donation to help out the organization; suggested donations include toys, treats, laundry detergent, paper towels, and bleach. Write a “thank you” note to a veteran to show them how much you appreciate their service. And, much more. Register for free HERE.
66th Annual Veterans Day Program
Time: 10:35 am
Location: Garner-Hayfield Ventura High School Gymnasium (605 West Lyons Street, Garner)
This great event will honor our veterans with a posting of the Colors, a “Veteran’s Day Tribute (For Freedom)” video, a performance of the Star-Spangled Banner”, and presentations by guests Mayor Ken Mick, American Legion Commander John Tammen, American Legion Auxiliary President Nancy Tammen, VFW Commander Herman Robinson, and VFW Auxiliary representative Delores Krein. A moment of silence will be held at 11:00 am for our fallen heroes. At the end of the event, the Colors will be retired along with a performance of Americans We.
