Greene Iowa Real Estate

Greene is located about 20 miles south-southwest of Charles City. This city of a little over 1,000 people is only a 45 minute drive to the Cedar Falls/Waterloo Iowa area where shopping and dining is abundant.

The town got its name from Judge George Greene who donated a million dollars to the city for a local library.  In honor of the donation the city changed its name from Elm Springs to Greene.  While libraries have changed a lot since then, a new library was built in the 1980s to accommodate the needs of the residents then and into the future.

The city also boasts a new community center for various activities and events. This facility, which is available for rent, was finished in 2012

Greene has many of its residents needs filled.  This ranges from medical doctors for you to a vet for your pet, banking, grocery store, restaurants, hardware store and lumber company as well as a boutique and salons. If you like golfing, there is a golf course on the north side of the city that runs along the Shell Rock river.

The Shell Rock river actually runs through Greene.  This, along with the numerous trees around the city, makes for some nice scenery throughout the town. Perrin Park runs along the river giving you a nice place to rest and relax or get some exercise in.

Greene is part of the North Butler School district offers 3 and 4 year old preschool – 12th grade.
